Movies To Watch On Netflix® Right Now

As you know from a previous post, I am quite the Netflix® aficionado. In that prior post, I gave you all of the shows to watch right now. This time you will read a list of a handful or so of best movies to watch right now. But first, know that there are tons of entertaining movies on the popular streaming app. One of those just added is Black Panther, which we all know was an awesome blockbuster hit movie that there is no need to summarize because the whole world watched it. Just know that it’s now available to watch on Netflix®.

Speaking of Black Panther, the panther himself, Chadwick Boseman, stars in Message from the King, which I watched way before Black Panther was released. He stars as an African man who travels all the way to Los Angeles to find his missing sister and to bring justice to those who compromised her safety. His character is very strong and can be violent but anticipates the plans of others and thinks of everything before he acts. The movie is highly dramatic and has lots of surprises.

America has a tendency of copying movies from Asian countries and Death Note is no exception. This movie is about a teen boy who finds a notebook that allows him to kill anyone he wishes simply by writing their name within the pages. He becomes obsessed with his new power and eliminates those who he considers to be unworthy of life. But, the demon within the notebook causes him to regret his new gift. I never saw the Asian version but, heard it was even better.

While on the topic of successful Asian movies, Train to Busan is a South Korean Zombie flick. A man and his young daughter as well as several other passengers are trapped inside of a speeding train traveling across the country during a severe zombie outbreak. The movie if fully subtitles but well worth the reading. There is tons of action and gore along with nail biting moments. I have seen dozens of zombie movies and this one is one of the best!

Amanda Seyfried stars alongside Clive Owen in a futuristic film titled, Anon, where all memories are recorded and because of this; crime has almost ceased to exist. While detective Sal Frieland (Owen) is trying to solve a series of murders he encounters a young woman (Seyfried) who has no identity, no history and is invisible to the cops. Sal realizes this may the beginning of a new type of crime and ways that others have found to dodge being recorded. The most intriguing aspect of the film was that no one’s lives were private, which brings up the “big brother” discussion on the “government prying into civilian’s private lives”.

In Pickpockets, a group of small time teenage thieves are coached by a strange man on how to be successful pickpockets on the streets of Bogota, Columbia. They eventually do so well that they venture out to do it on their own. But, like all other rags to riches stories, the group soon gets caught up in a tangled web of secrets, lies and death. The movie is in Spanish but, subtitled for those who do are not bilingual, like myself.

The always amazing Selma Hayek stars as a Queen and over bearing mother in Tale of Tales. She is very serious and frightening in this role. While the movie has all of the makings of a fairy tale, it is very dark and twisted. There are a few different stories followed throughout the movie with magic, murder, deceit and drama. I had a really great time watching but, do not recommend it to the kiddos!

Night Fare is a crazy good movie that is a mix of Jeeper Creepers and Road Rage. Two young friends reunite in Paris and take a taxi home from a night out together. One of the friends ends up skipping out on paying the driver and soon realize that they messed with the wrong guy. They end up spending the entire night running from the psychopath. But, the ending is what makes the film most memorable! You definitely will not expect the twist of fate.

If you want to laugh your ass off then you must watch War on Everyone. Alexander Skarsgård, Michael Peña play two corrupt cops who take their job as a joke and rip off the criminals that cross their paths. But, they end up messing with the wrong guy this time. If you have a sense of humor and enjoy stupid, corny and raunchy comedy then this movie is for you.

I am going to finish off this list with one of my favorite Netflix® films, The Bad Batch. With an all star cast of Suki Waterhouse, Keanu Reeves, Jim Carrey and my favorite big screen hottie, Jason Momoa. Let’s take a moment of silence to praise his gorgeousness……. Okay, I’m back. In a very different type of world, those who are deemed unfit for civilization are exiled to the desert. Waterhouse plays a one of those people. She is kidnapped by cannibals, led by Momoa. She eventually escapes but, ends up in a new society of people who are just as mysterious and deadly as the cannibals. Reeves plays the leader of that society and Carrey makes appearances throughout the film. I would have honestly never watched it without knowing that Momoa was in it but, I am glad I did.

That’s my short list of the first few films that you have got to download and watch on Netflix®. So, go view and we will meet again with a whole new list next time!
